101 Things About Me Part 54

Yeesh. It’s been so long since I added to this list that I have lost my hand written list of things to add. 😦 *sigh*

Ah well. I know for sure this wasn’t on it.

I have HPV (human papillomavirus). Yes, that virus that causes cancer. Cervical cancer.

Only one problem with knowing HPV causes cancer. The thing that the media left out with their coverage of the vaccinations meant for teen girls is that there are many different strains of HPV. Not all of them sexually transmitted (only 40 strains are) and not all of them cause cancer (30 strains will put you at risk).  There are more than 100 types of HPV.

The most common one will give you warts. Not genital warts, but those that appear on your hands.

When I was a child, I had a collection on my left hand. It was not fun mostly because I remember kids in elementary school not wanting to hold my left hand because of them. The biggest one was at the outer knuckle of my thumb (just below my nail) and it was about 1/8″ across. They peppered the edge of my palm going down toward my wrist. I even had a tiny one on the pad of my thumb but it went away. Eventually they all went away, but not before the big one got cut off my thumb in junior high. I won’t go into gory details, but suffice it to say that to this day I have no idea how it got cut. I just remember going to the office because I was in dire need of a First Aid kit.

I say all of this because I have a little bump again on my left hand and near my thumb, but further down toward the heel of my palm. Of course it could be something else entirely, but we shall see. I also had one pop up for a time on the outer side of my ring finger on my left hand. In that middle area. It disappeared as well.
