A wise and caring friend would tell someone who is still allowing pain to pull her down to quit looking at the past and look to the future. And that wise and caring friend would be absolutely correct. But how does one focus on an unknown future? Standing at a crossroads, not being able to see anything in any direction but from the way one has come. There’s a pull back to that time. There’s familiarity. Never mind the pain that’s there. We seem to find comfort in the familiar, pain or no pain.
So how does one focus on the future rather than reliving the painful past? That’s where I am right now, in case you were wondering, only I just realised it tonight.
